| Night on a mountain |
The last few weeks have been marked by a lot of sadness, but Mike was able to find some distraction by taking three boisterous children to the zoo for the day. The zoo is extremely popular at the moment since two polar bear cubs were born there recently, but Lucy and her pals were more interested in the monkeys and creepy-crawlies. The highlight of their day was the bat house, named "Haus Dracula", where bats flew around their heads and landed on their hands in the semi-darkness. One bat was a little keen when eating banana from Lucy's hand - she ended up with two fang marks in her finger!
A week later, Mike dragged me (and Pete, his mate) up a mountain. I'd expressed interest in finding out what it's like to sleep on a mountain top after seeing Mike's impressive photos of sunsets and sunrises. None of us had bargained for pouring rain all night and the following morning, but it had been a lot of fun up until the wet part. Plus we were treated to an almost full moon. I'd definitely do it again, but perhaps when the weather forecast is more promising!
