Ed and Chris arrived back from Vienna on 30th December, very late at night I might add. Chris had to fly to Belfast early the next day, so we drove him to the airport and I told Ed that we would be leaving for Lindau at 1pm. He hardly had time to re-pack!

Lindau is a beautiful place, the old town positioned on Lake Constance, an island connected by two bridges to the mainland. We spent two nights there and saw in the new year with a boat trip on the lake whilst Ed travelled to Lichtenstein and back for the day.

Back in Munich Ed and I had just a day to wash and pack before driving to the airport again in order to fly to Manchester. The afternoon was very cold yet sunny, perfect for a spot of iceskating on the local outdoor rink. So we got a little much-needed exercise!
Later at the airport, once thoroughly frisked and through the security area, our chosen carrier (rhymes with cheesy net) announced that our flight was cancelled. Were we miffed? More than slightly.
While Mike treated Lucy and a friend to a visit to the Deutsches Museum today, I took Ed to the Englischer Garten and showed him the surfers on the Eisbach "wave". Wetsuits must be really good these days if they can keep people from feeling the cold in air temperatures of -5°C and freezing cold water. Ed was suitably impressed.
At the moment he is making plans for travelling to more cities, so we may be saying goodbye to him tomorrow. Lucy cried for 40 minutes in the car to the airport yesterday at the prospect of seeing him leave, so Mike will take her skiing tomorrow so that there will be no risk of a drawn-out parting scene!
