The last ten days have brought some spring babies to the Canada geese around the corner. Lucy was very excited, which you can understand if you click on these photos and see the larger versions. Unfortunately, though, the four goslings were reduced to just two within a matter of days... such is nature.
Last Saturday proved to be the hottest ever recorded in Bavaria in April: the temperature reached 32.3 degrees in Munich! We've dug out our summer clothes and the sunscreen is in a handy place already.
Today being May Day, we got a day off school/work and were able to cycle out in lovely weather to one of the beergardens nearby, where the locals were putting up a new maypole. Due to weathering and rot, maypoles have to be replaced relatively often (every 3-5 years) and the tradition is quite a spectacle: the helpers have to raise the pole upwards using wooden supports. No mechanical means are allowed. The last push is accompanied by a huge cheer (and might be followed by a few scary blasts from saluting guns) then the helpers are rewarded with mugs of beer and a lunch.
