Like Tarzan of the apes

Like Tarzan - that's how we felt today, swinging from tree to tree at a high ropes course in Garmisch Partenkirchen. The Föhn wind, which is typical of this time of year in our part of Germany, brought temperatures of 20°C or more - perfect for a little (strenuous) outdoor activity.

While many revellers were toasting each other with litres of Oktoberfest beer in the centre of Munich today, we were patting each other on the back for having made it to the end of each course. We began with the white course, progressed to yellow, struggled over the orange, and Mike and I had a crack at pink ... and succeeded. But we left out beige,  light green, dark green, blue, red and black - that's how much this particular place has to offer, including views from 17 metres up in the treetops. I think we'll have to do some arm-strengthening exercises and go back for more at a later date.

I began this blog when Lucy started primary school at the age of six. Last week, she had her first day at secondary school, now 10 years of age, and what an emotional week we've had. It's hard leaving primary school as one of the big children, then arriving at secondary to become one of the small children again. Day by day, however, things seem to be getting better, and we are proud that Lucy is gaining independence - not only in getting herself to school and home again by bike, but also in making her own important decisions.

Will this blog exist when Lucy reaches the end of secondary school, in eight years time? That's a lot of blog entries!
