A trip out to a wildlife park

Wildlife park in Aurach, Austria

A fire salamander
Last weekend was a long weekend, as there was a public holiday (May Day) on the Friday. Mike and our friends the Littles and the Saunderses went to stay at a lovely hostel in the Brixen valley in Austria. Unfortunately, dogs aren't allowed there, so I stayed at home to look after Belka and, as it happened, Lucy too. On the Saturday, though, I drove Belka down to meet up with them just for the day. We went to a nearby wildlife park, which we'd visited as a family several years ago and liked. Surprisingly, dogs were permitted in the park, so it was interesting (and a little nerve-wracking) to lead Belka through the groups of goats and deer.

Mike spotted the handsome fire salamander while on a drizzly pre-breakfast hike while he was staying at the hostel. It tried to escape by swimming across a puddle and climbing up the opposite bank, but he managed to "capture" it. I couldn't help but remember the time he came back from a hike and gave me a dead fire salamander as a present. He thought it was romantic. Hm.
