We spent a few days of the half-term holiday in the Bavarian Forest and stayed at a dog-friendly hotel. These types of hotel are great, because dogs are not simply tolerated but positively welcomed: you can sit in the dining room with other families, each with your dog lying under your table. The facilities are laid out with dogs in mind, such as a dog shower, special towels, a fridge for dog food and an obstacle course with hurdles, seesaw, a tunnel and slalom poles. Belka was unfortunately not really into the latter, but she loved the expanse of grass to run around and play on.
Our activities tended to be of the walking kind - walking up, down and around the hill behind the hotel. When Lucy and I were taking advantage of the health treatments on offer, Mike was either running with Belka over that same hill or was steering her up and down Lusen, one of the three major hills (can't really say mountains) in this region.
We also popped over the border for half a day, to see Cesky Krumlov, also known as Krumau. It is a small town divided by a very mature river. There are a number of museums and an impressive castle to visit, from where you get some wonderful views. Rounding that off with a Czech beer in the sunshine at a cafe by the river was marvellous.
