A brief camping trip

From Königssee to Obersee and back
Swimming in Obersee
A flat walk along the old saline pipe route

Mike and I have always enjoyed our trips to Königssee. We have a favourite campsite with excellent facilities that we've stayed at several times, within walking distance of the second deepest lake in Bavaria and overlooked by the second highest mountain in Germany. We drove down late Thursday afternoon in 30°C, only to discover rather quickly that the air con in Mike's car had broken. Rain is never far away in the Berchtesgaden region, though, so by the time we had got the tent up, a welcome shower came along.
Friday was hot and sunny again, so we took the boat across the Königssee to the far end, Salet, and walked to a lake further up the valley. The water is really cold but has this warmish layer at the surface that makes swimming very pleasant. Belka followed me in but turned back rather sharpish.
It bucketed down on Friday night and turned fine and warm again the next morning, but the forecast was for a very wet Saturday night and Sunday, so we decided to pack up while the going was good. We stayed in the area for the day, though, and repeated a walk we'd done before to a lovely restaurant on the mountainside in Ramsau. You can see Mike above tucking into a plate of char fillet and salad.
We drove home in the sweltering heat again, knowing that although Krailling was hot and sunny, Königssee would be getting a good dousing. Sure enough that rain came this way in the night and it throughly chucked it down!
