We had such a great time in Nevada and California. Like all holidays, it was too short. Mike has grouped the best bits into themes. I have to give special mention to the rock formations. On the left you can see the famous Half Dome mountain in Yosemite, followed by a Dragon's Back in the Colorado gorge. Then comes the Devil's Postpile, an incredible stack of basalt rock columns. Next we have the Panum Crater, created by a volcano that left behind piles of pumice and obsidian. Next-to-last is tufa, a type of limestone formed "when carbonate minerals precipitate out of ambient temperature water" (see Wikipedia). Finally, we have a ridge down which hot thermal water has run to produce a cleft before culminating in a warm pool where people go to bathe. In the picture at the top, in the middle you can see Mike with his legs in a nearby thermal pool.
