What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!

Flying over varied landscapes

Enjoying the freedom
We've arrived home after our trip to Las Vegas – and we have our Lucy back! We had two weeks of wonderful holiday in between, too. Above are some photos from the first part of the fortnight.

Flying across the United States leaves one quite in awe of the extreme landscapes: huge lakes; high, snow-capped mountains; the skyscrapers of Chicago; the neat layout of some of the cities; and the vast empty spaces in between. Descending over Las Vegas is another experience in itself, because you basically fly over the strip with all its bombastic hotels and monuments.

We were surprised by the arrival of an excited, emotional Lucy and her host sister, Courtney, as we waited at the carousel for our luggage – at Vegas airport, the general public is allowed into the baggage hall, so we hadn't expected to be greeted so early! Once we had everything, it was off to the rental car centre, and onward to our hotel (see third photo down, left-hand side). What a beautiful place; we had a superb view over the city from our room, and an even better panorama of the cityscape from the multi-storey carpark.

We took a walk down the strip on our second day. All the buildings are packed tightly together, and there are so many people around! I was happy to have spent only one afternoon there, and glad when it was time to pick up the motorhome and disappear into the open and the lower temperatures.

There will be more of our account to follow in the coming days...
