The last time Mike and I went together to Eng, we'd just started going out. It's a wonderful area and I was very keen to go back there. We hiked up to a hut serving delicious food. After lunch, Belka and I waited while Mike shimmied a little further uphill to circuit the Lamsenjochspitze. Belka really doesn't like the pack splitting up and cried at intervals until she could see Mike again. We made it back down to the valley just before the heavens opened.
Two days later we made our way southwards again, this time to watch the cows arriving after being driven down from their summer quarters. The tradition goes that if there have been no unfortunate incidents with the cows during the summer, then the cows get decorated with crowns of flowers, and the farmers dress up in their Lederhosen. Something had clearly happened to this herd, however, because there was no finery to be seen. Nevertheless, there was music, sausage, lots of beer and a lot of spectators enjoying the event.
