Toads galore

Lucy and her friend Valentin recently went out to help the Association for Nature Protection build some toad fences. In order to reach the pond where they multiply, the local toads have to cover a long and dangerous route through the forest which involves getting across one busy road, hence the fences. At night, volunteers go to the fences, put the toads congregated there into buckets and drive them up the road to the pond.

The pond is currently toad soup. The water's surface is practically bubbling with activity. I think the photos say it all. I'm not sure I agree with Lucy that the toads are cute, but I'm certain their tiny offspring will be!
