We had some (more) very un-summery weather last week, but the forecast for Friday to Sunday was very good indeed. Lucy and I fancied a few days closer to the mountains and chose Kochel am See - approximately 65 km away from Munich - as a base for some weekend fun.Meanwhile Mike was off with his mate Alan doing a traverse of the Arnspitz ridge, taking in some impressively pointy summits. They hiked up by moonlight to a suitable bivouac site at almost 2000m, so that they could enjoy the sunrise before getting an early start. Lucy and I decided to do without the phone call at sunrise that Mike offered us.
We spent Friday afternoon at Trimini, a large in- and outdoor swimming pool area with various slides. It was loads of fun. In the evening at our hotel, Lucy began to have very big doubts about being away from home for 3 nights and insisted that we return home earlier than planned. The whole situation was a bit frustrating to say the least.
On Saturday we went to a different swimming pool place: the warm Alp baths in Benediktbeuern where we stayed for hours and hours. We went a bit pink after being outside so much and spent the evening glowing like tomatoes (we were back to normal the next day).
We were due to stay til Monday, but Mike came down to Kochel by train today and after a lovely walk to a waterfall and a dip in the rock pool below it, we drove home and are now lazing in 30°C of summer weather back in Krailling.
