Creatures great and small

We've had some entertaining moments thanks to various animals and insects recently. Mike really enjoys taking photos of wildlife, so he's given me a selection of the creatures he's come across during the last couple of weeks to add to the blog.

He went AWOL for half an hour two evenings ago and came back all excited about witnessing a ladybird emerging from its pupa, just along the road in Franzstrasse. None of us has ever seen that happen. The wings' colour with black spots develops in the few hours after emerging. If you click on the photo above, you'll get the larger version.

The larger creatures were at various places along Mike's hikes. I reckon he ought to bring out a book of his ptarmigan photos, as they've accumulated over the years somewhat.

Thingummy and Wotsit had to be rescued from the pond when June temperatures dropped suddenly. We put them back in there yesterday, and now it has been raining non-stop for nearly 24 hours. It's just not their summer (yet).

P.S. Guess which one of the above animals is an imposter, made by Lucy at school in handicrafts lessons.
P.P.S. To John and Mike: The pony is saying "Happy Fathers' Day!" (just use your imagination)
