Yorkshire sights

My goodness, didn't we have a smashing time in Yorkshire. There's so much to discover in that part of the country, and the scenery is just beautiful. The first few stages of Le Tour 2014 will be passing through some picturesque countryside and villages.

There was something that each of us was particularly interested in seeing or doing whilst we were on holiday: Lucy was really looking forward to seeing and spending time with her three cousins Edith, Nancy and Francis again; I wanted to visit some lavender fields; and Mike wanted to do the Three Peaks. Needless to say, we all got our money's worth... and more. We first took in some of the parts of the coast familiar to me from my childhood: Filey and Bridlington. Later on, in Whitby, we had a look around the abbey, and Mike also paid a visit to the Captain Cook Museum.

Moving on from Filey, we made brief stops at Yorkshire Lavender and Jervaulx abbey, before settling in for several days in Wensleydale - Hawes to be exact. We had to see cheese being made, of course, but the tasting part afterwards in the cheese shop was the most fun!

A couple of nights in Macclesfield rounded off the trip, but we still had time to walk around Yorkshire Sculpture Park (what an amazing place) before finally arriving back at the port of Hull. Smashing holiday. I'd love to go again!
