Knitting weekend

For our annual Knit 'n' Natter weekend, we chose Bamberg this year. We - there were six of us - decided to travel by coach, but only because the Deutsche Bahn website had stopped showing the trains that you could use the special Bavarian saver tickets on. Had we gone and spoken to ... a real person (!), we might have discovered that we could have gone easily and cheaply by train after all.

We had a superb time in Bamberg. It is such a beautiful place. The tree outside our hotel had crocheted flowers hanging from it; it as if they knew the knitters were coming. The highlight was finding the wool shop, with bike and bollards in front of it replete in their own knitted clothes. We had to elbow our way through the other tourists in order to get photos.

We took a boat-trip on the river while we were there and we knitted, of course. It was so amusing to see the German ladies looking at us intently and wondering why we knit so strangely. The German and British knitting styles are quite different, so it's always bound to spark a conversation between us.

Next year, we're off to Regensburg.
