The treasures in our garden

Thingummy and Wotsit

Wotsit
Thingummy and Wotsit are no longer in the garden pond. Watching them sunbathe while you're sitting in the garden is a very relaxing way to pass the time. Then September brings such a drop in temperature that they think it's time to hibernate already, so they are back in the aquarium now for the next couple of months. They have both grown quite a bit; Wotsit now has quite distinctive spots on her belly and is about to outgrow Thingummy. The females tend to be bigger in general. I wouldn't say they are the best of friends - they merely tolerate each other and continue to struggle for the best position under the sunlamp.

There is a certain time of day when the birds have been swooping into our garden (around 4 or 5 in the afternoon) and taking it in turns to have a bath. Lucy has ensured that the bird bath stays clean and filled with fresh water. Occasionally we have visits from a robin and a woodpecker.

Mike was sitting at breakfast one morning recently when he heard a sudden thump on the patio door. There stood a grey squirrel reeling from the shock of having headbutted the glass. Swifter than you can say "Silly squirrel", Mike had a camera in his hand and managed to snap the little fellow before he jumped back into the trees.
