Christmas trees decked with baubles and lights seem very odd when the temperatures are near the teens and the sky is a perfect blue. I wonder how the Aussies feel when Christmas is all around but typical winter weather isn't.
Ed and Melinda came by train from Budapest to stay with us for a few days during the holidays. We took them skating and to Ludwig's castles. Melinda came shopping with Lucy and me while Ed was recovering from a stiff night-hike and a mountain-top sleep in a bivvy bag with Mike, Belka and our mate Pete.
Now the temperatures have dropped to near zero. New Year's Eve, which we spent at home observing Belka's (non-)reactions to firework noises, was drizzly and marred by news bulletins about suspected attacks in central Munich and the closure of inner-city train stations and services. So far, nothing has happened, thank goodness.
