We have really been enjoying the beginning of summer. Having meals in the garden has become the norm, and we had our first mini-barbecue last week when Lucy invited a couple of friends round. They cooked bread dough over the fire, wrapped around sticks, and toasted marshmallows afterwards.
Mike has taken Belka out for a couple of hikes, including a scramble over rocky summits and sightings of wildlife. The marmot was whistling really loudly. If the toad doesn't look very happy, it's because the snake (on the right) was chomping at his back leg. When Mike pointed his camera at the snake, it let go of the toad and slithered away. Phew, that was a lucky escape!
It's been a good week for spotting wildlife. I saw a fox (a live one) in the middle of the road ahead of me while I was out cycling. It ran away quickly, of course. The best sighting, however, was of a wild boar with her six little ones which all crossed a track in front of Mike and Belka while they were walking in the local fields. It all happened so fast that Mike wasn't able to get any usable photos.
The SUP board has been out twice now within the space of a week. There are several lakes located quite close to where we live, and my favourite is Wörthsee. The water is relatively warm already, so it wasn't so awful when I fell in!
